I have raised it before but I have a problem in following tabs. I do
however understand their need & use them as a guide. As I came to the
course with many years of playing ,with no training & lots of bad
habits, I find that I am picking bits and pieces from all throughout
the course. I am choosing what I want to play ie is that good or
bad?
I have no problem eg in playing any tune I relate to or can memorise
lyrics for. I can play all the beginning tunes , most of the
intermediate tunes and have no trouble with advanced tunes like Red
Wing & The Girl I Left Behind (know the lyrics), can partially play
Soldiers Joy, Drunken Landlady & Big Scotia (pt A's) but always prior
to each attempt I have to listen to the tune from the academy's files
as even having the tabs in front of me is not a helpful prompt.
Similarly Planxty Irwin I can very easily play but each time I must
hear it first ie I cannot after months of playing remember how it goes
& tabs don't prompt me.
I also struggle in practicing the Blues scale ie can very easily
remember the major scale because of do-ray-me etc. Each time I go to
play the blues scale ie daily now for around 2+ years I still need
tabs to remind me of the note sequence. Is there a 'ditty' or a phrase
that can be sung in the head to assist in remembering the blues scale?
