My name is Jim and am new to the Academy. Just curious how long it has taken some memebers to complete the freshman, sophomore, junior and senior years. How much time is spent daily in learning the material? I am not gifted musically but would like to try to finish and graduate.

Hi Jim my freshman year went in a couple of weeks but then im in sophomore year it takes me 4 to 6 weeks a lesson and that is just the blues.i have decided to go back and work on the tunes lessons i figure its all for the best.im studying 2 other courses so i split up the lessons. I practice 30 min to 8 hours depending on what im doing but it averages out to a couple hours a day.I wanted to do this course quick when I 1st started but thought why?So ive slowed down my estimated time firgure is about 3 to 4 years i figure if i can make it that far.Ive gotten interested in some of the celtic tunes that i hadnt really gave a thought to when i started.I firgure thats a real strong point of this course and it will takes years i would amagine but Tony set it up like college course so might as well take 3-4 years get a good schooling.

Thanks David that gives me an idea of the time frame and commitment needed. I am enjoying it so far much better than trying to learn from a book. Thanks again

James - good questions. The answer to them however is not what you'd think. Once you start making progress, then the time to finish one lesson and start the next is less important than the fun you have along the way.

I've been playing for 32 years, but I'm sure that many folk here who have been playing a short time only are having just as much fun as I am.

That's what really counts.

yea wait untill you get to the turnarounds or bending riffs then the fun begins.I can do something similar to the exercise but getting it right on is something i cant do.Tony plays some tight riffs some seem like they would be easy to play just a couple of notes but he plays them tight.very hard to do.At 1st i would play something that was similar but way looser and say that will work and move on.And sometimes still do if caught in to much a rut ,But this last few months i either go back and redo a lesson or 2 to make sure i can still do it.and alot of times i cant.Or i spend a long time bfore moving on.But my study plan is weird i switch between different study programs from day to day and ill work on a lesson for 15 to 30 min. then ill read something about harp go back and practice some more then i might record something. get tired pick up the guitar for a minute then the urge to practice the harp comes back.I dont have much a life right now untill i can go back to work this keeps me going.of course i think they have a medicine for people like me lol
