Hi Dave I've been doing nothin but that hans scale on lesson 5 ....

1B 1D 2B 2D" 2D 3D" 3D 4B 4D 4B 3D 3D" 2D 2D" 2B 1D
1B 1D 2B 1D 1B 1D 2B 1D 1B 1D 2B 2D" 2D 2D" 2B 1D

What a challenge like 2 months every day for hours....

I probably got it to 80 percent to speed.

even right now not sure if its possible for me to get it
100 percent...

But it's on the exam so I will keep at it....

I can't say I hate it...it's helping with the bends.

I do love a challenge....

We'll see. how it goes.

I miss posting some tunes.....

What's everyone else doin...

Harp ON!!

You are right David, and there are two in particular who are missing.
Hobostubs used to appear very regularly, but it has been summertime over there so he may be away on holiday.
The other is our esteemed leader, Tony.
It must be close to 3 months since we have heard from him as far as I can remember.

Whers Ed?

Joe> keep at it you are a trojan and deserve all the credit. To tell you the truth Ben gave me on my last Skype lesson an exercise which is similar:-

1B 2B 1D 2D" 2B 3B 2D" 3D" 2D 3D 3D" 4B 3D 4D 4B 5B 4D 5D 5B 6B 5D 6D 6B 7D 6D 7B 7D 8D 7B 8B 8D 9D 8B 9B 9D 10D 9B 10B.

But, I'm sorry Ben, I'm ashamed to say that I cannot do this sort of thing. After ca 10 goes I thought this is not me. I'm too old and too stubborn to practice the ABC when real music beckons.

I'm finding that the bends come easiest (ie if ever they come easy) when by ear I learn a tune & realise / recognise the notes I have to get. With my Bluegrass crowd nearly all the stuff I'm doing is 2nd position and requires bends. Admittedly a lot is simple stuff ie single verse/chorus solo with the rest just simple licks and chugging along as support to tunes like Angel Band, Long Journey Home, Rolling in My Sweet Baby's Arms, Shady Grove & Will the Circle Be unbroken etc.

I'm still here and look in most days. I'm really not up with the blues, as a player that is, but love it and hope to get there one day.

I've recently completed all the intermediate tunes and have just commenced with my first advanced tune, the Brabazon one - it's a biggie, as was the aircraft. ;-)

I'm with a small group of about six seniors and we meet weekly in our local neighbourhood house to exchange ideas and do a wee bit of practice on our harps - we play monthly in the local old folks home and get invited further afield occasionally. The tunes we play are just the standard tunes that the old folks like to hear.

below is a photo of me and the identical twins - They had a silly hat on me but I've edited the photo and changed to a Santa hat - maybe just as silly.

Sorry that I havent been online much,My computer went and bit the dust,About the same time i was starting to think maybe, that i have been spending to much time online, anyways,Im on my Dads computer right now,I get on, off and on but been trying to stay offline alot more,It has advantages and disavantages,With my harp lessons,I havent study anything new,But have been working daily with trying to add embellishments with the tunes I have allready learned,And i have worked alot on my 1 man band setup,But im wanting to try to get back into whisky befor breakfeast, and playing to some blues jamtracks which i havent done in months,Im no longer playing with the Rainwater band, and I turned down another chance with some friends trying to start a rock cover band, but they wanted me to play guitar, im really wanting to pursue the 1 man band right now.I just got me a car,and so im thinking about trying some busking in between job searching,Got to get it paid for now ;-)Anyways I hope every one is doing allright Ill try to stop in now and then .peace

thats cool your jamming with a bluegrass band,My last gig was a couple months back,It was at a local bar, across the lake ,and when i got there Mr Rainwater only had half of my money, which wasnt that big a deal but my best friend played bass that night and he's a real good gutarist and can play a decent bass guitar, well we were about halfway into the set and the drunk soundman, had me and the bass player turned down so low you couldnt hear either one of us,the guitar and vocals and drummer was all you could hear,we stopped playing and set down at the bar right next to the equipment and watched them play;-)They didnt even notice the drummer and gutarist have been jamming by themselves last few years and they were tight but I said to the bass player I said there music is to loud for any harp),So Ive decided just to work on my 1man band it lets me do both guitar and harp, the more ive got into learning the harp, the more i realise that im also a guitar player and have to much time invested learnin it,so i should use both.;-)I hope your having a better time with your band than what i was having;-)

Hobo, its not exactly a Bluegrass Band as such. It's a fairly large group eg 6 guitars, 6 banjos, 3 mandolins, a ukelele, fiddle, double bass and me. No one is amplified as it is held in a church hall where there are some neighbours. Still we make plenty of noise. Of course the numbers & types of instruments changes every meet which is twice a month.

We sit in a circle and take turns at solos and at other times I just chugg along or occasionally surprise myself by producing some nice counter melody riffs to round off other solos. I have been complimented on my playing but it's a case of taking it slowly and supporting each other.

My biggest competition is the fiddle player ie we get on ok but musically we need to work things out better.

We all work from a MelBay book called 'Parking Lot Pickers Songbook' which has about 200 traditional, folk, gospel type tunes. They publish different editions for guitar, banjo, mandolin & fiddle. But, they don't have a harp one! I purchased the fiddle song book as it comes with 2 CD's of all the 200 tunes (they are short). My hope is that I can more closely associate the harp sound to a fiddle hence I hope to pick up some stuff by ear. A lot of the tunes have harmonica tabs available from HarpTabs.com and as I come to a new tune I seek out the tabs if I have a problem.

The guy that I did some practice with ie the guitarist has landed a new job which is in another city. I now am on the lookout for someone.
